Saint J. Freinademetz

Josef Freinademetz is the first Saint of the Badia Valley and South Tyrol. Father Freinademetz is admired by the believers of the Badia Valley and nearby valleys, who pray for the protection of their land and their families. All churches in the Ladin communities and many private homes have a picture of the Saint. The birthplace of Saint Josef Freinademetz is located in Oies, and is visited my numerous pilgrims every year. Several relics, Chinese clothes and many handwritten documents can be seen on the first floor of the building. On the ground floor you can find a chapel, where mass takes place at least once daily. Near the residential building you'll find the former barn, which now hosts a church dedicated to the Saint. The church was built in 1995. During his stay in South Tyrol, Pope Benedict XVI visited the birthplace of Saint. J. Freinademetz on August 5th 2008.
